My name is Adrian Dean, and I’m an Associate at Heinz Law.
I started my career in theatre and film as an actor. It could be said that this is far removed from the law, however, as with all things in life, we gain experience from our previous undertakings, which we can incorporate into our current and future endeavours – so it has been with me.
During my final year of law school, I worked as a family law clerk under Heinz Law Principal, Peter Heinz. This mentoring, along with the autonomy and unique variety of matters involved in working in a regional law firm, helped shape and refine my expertise and skills. I also credit this work experience for helping me achieve excellent results at University. I graduated from my law degree in the top 2% of students, winning two subject prizes.
Later, when I was lecturing in Land Law at Deakin University, my past theatre skills helped me connect with my audience, a skill I believe translates in the courtroom.
I strongly believe to be a great lawyer I need to ensure my practical skills and experience is always matched with ongoing studies, and am currently completing my Master of Laws degree at the University of Melbourne.
In 2019, after winning the Victorian Golden Gavel Award, I travelled to Darwin to represent Victoria and won the national title.
When not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, keeping fit, and playing the guitar.
